Our coats run true to size.

- Is THE ROAD COAT® compatible with car seats?
We had THE ROAD COAT® crash tested by an independent crash test lab, reviewed by renowned national expert in the field of child passenger safety as well as certified instructor for both the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration.
THE ROAD COAT® is compatible with car seat use. THE ROAD COAT® tested similarly to no coat. The crash test video is posted on our video page.
- How doesTHE ROAD COAT® works? Is there any fabric between my child and the harness?
THE ROAD COAT® features a thin front inner layer that eliminates the puffy outer layer from being between the car seat harness and your child this allows the harness to lay flat and snug against the chest. A unique split collar construction allows the harness straps to pass to the front & lay flat on the shoulders.
- What about the back of THE ROAD COAT®? Is that puffy too?
The back of THE ROAD COAT® is puffy but is highly compressible and is leaving no excess fabric to create slack in the harness. In fact, you can adjust the harness with no coat on - put the coat back on and use the car seat with the coat without readjusting the harness again. Please see the video of Metro Detroit Mommy reviewing THE ROAD COAT® with a CPS Technician and performing the pinch test. You can also take a look at the Baby Guy NYC review video.
- What if there is a car accident, the car is on fire, or submerged in water. Will THE ROAD COAT® delay getting my child out?
The zip up of the outer layer is optional. You can always leave the outer layer unzipped. Your child is still wearing the coat even with the outer layer is unzipped.
Removing the child with the coat on should not be any faster or slower than with any other article of clothing.
Actually, if your child is in an accident you're supposed to remove the car seat with them in it until first responders get there to check them out for injuries. You don't want to make anything worse.
You don't want to remove a child from their harnessed car seat until paramedics arrive In case of internal decapitation if you need to get the child out due to fire unbuckle the car seat and remove car seat with child in it still out of the car
- Can I do the same with a normal coat?
THE ROAD COAT® is engineered so the 5-point harness can pass to the front.
This cannot be achieved safely with a regular coat. There's no way you could get a safe fit with a traditional winter coat on your kid while in their car seat.
- Is THE ROAD COAT® CPST ( Car Passenger Saftey Technician ) tested?
We have worked with several CPST’s and THE ROAD COAT® is car seat safe.
Please see The Car Seat Lady review of the Road Coat. She is a very well-known NYC pediatrician and CPST instructor with the National Highway Safety Administrations
