Top 5 Car Seat Safety Tips
At One Kid, we know there is cargo more precious than our children. We take time and effort to mold them into the beautiful people they become as adults, but unfortunately, we can still sometimes fall short on educating ourselves about the proper use of car seats.
With the cold winter months moving in, we thought it would be important to share our top 5 car seat safety tips to keeps kids safe and a pretty nice infographic that shares information, statistics, and tips on seat belts car seats and booster seats.
- Keep kids from birth until age 2-4 in a rear-facing car seat in the back seat. This is the safest way to travel with infants and toddlers.
- Keep kids in car seats until they are at least 5. Once they can no longer be rear-facing, have them sit front-facing and continue to keep them in the back seat.
- Once your child has outgrown his/her car seat move them to a booster seat. Rather than using the strap at the waist, lay it across their upper thighs. Continue this method until they are 4 feet 9 inches tall and 9-12 years old.
- When old enough to use the seat belt continue to do so, keeping the child in the back seat and using the waist strap across the tops of the upper thigh.
- Don’t seat children in the front seat with a car that has a front seat airbag. Airbags can kill infants, toddlers, and children.
- The safest part of a car is in the middle of the backseat, always have your child sit in this position with their seatbelt on.
Now as important as it was for us to share how to safely secure your infant and toddler in their car seats and booster seats, it’s equally as important for us to ask you as parents to buckle up. Please wear your seatbelt at all times when in a moving vehicle.
